Advertisement can be a powerful tool but you need certain requirements to get the best of it.

We live in a world where everyone is free to speak their opinion and, with the help of social media, it is possible to create audiences, especially if such audiences believe or want to believe the opinions that are shared. The truth is some people, most of the time, want to take advantage by selling hopium or false information to benefit themselves financially, We see that every time and in almost every niche. What got us here today is Meta Ads and Music Advertisement in general.
What an amazing discovery who could guess that advertisement can help to spread music. It is the most genius idea. However, if you really do the math, it is not. You don’t see Labels burning money on Meta Ads and there is a reason for that. Labels run Ads, but not to promote singles anymore. They mostly promote events which are a totally different story.
Yes there was a time when $1 per day could do miracles, but just a few smart people took advantage of that, not even labels. When Facebook Ads became popular, it didn’t take long to be adopted by almost everyone in the music industry and in almost every aspect of life, which made them extremely expensive and less effective due to the number of bots growing every single day.
To put some numbers on the table, the smallest budget you need to run ads nowadays and get decent results is around $100 per day, and that won’t keep the listeners engaged. Not to mention that you also need awesome music to make them click in the first place. Do you have such a level ? To be honest, it is not effective, not saying it doesn’t work at all, but there are cheaper ways that can give you at least 10x the results.
As human beings, it is normal to try to find the magic recipe, or the easiest way to get results. Unfortunately, hard work always beats shortcuts. Here is where the Fake Gurus, some people from certain sources and websites, show up to the party, trying to sell you their own wrong ideas and manipulation strategies. Sounds amazing, not to put do some hard work and just set up an Ad with just a few clicks waiting for people to go listen to your music. However, it is proven that putting some work every day, reaching curators in your niche and building a mutual cooperation relationship, will give you better results than burning money on Ads. Imagine a curator already has one year investing in his playlist. He already has a larger audience than you. Then, if you just plan to start today, you will leverage that audience from day one instead of wasting money on ads. Of course, many can skip your song on a playlist, but it’s better that no one even visiting your music, because people don’t even know who you are, and it’s easier to skip an unknown and annoying Ad, than skip a song which the listener might enjoy on a already grown playlist.
Going back to the Gurus, we can mention many, but in order to avoid enemies, we can’t mention them. Either way, I believe you already know who they are. You have to put them to the test before even considering wasting your money and your time following their strategies. Ask yourself the question shown below:
1- How many monthly listeners does a Guru have? Why is this important? Let’s take an example. A Guru had 5 years” running ads” and after 5 years he had just 20 thousand monthly listeners or even less. What does this mean? They wasted money for 5 years and didn’t manage to grow at least anything to 100k or even get the attention of any label or anything important. They might have maybe millions of streams on some tracks, but sitting at 20k listeners means that nobody was hooked, which means the strategy was not as effective. Also, we could’ve run bots to make it attractive to sell to you. Also, don’t even think about whether they get the money back from what was invested. Because the target was just selling you their course or consultation. The Playlist strategy will beat Ads every single time, and we have proof of independent artists doing this, but we can’t share them publicly to avoid breaking privacy agreements. If you are interested in knowing who is doing this, let us know privately.
2- Does the Guru run his own playlists? How engaging are the playlists? This is a simple way to understand why they have millions on their tracks but are not even capable of growing a single playlist. Huge red flag. Especially if they offer playlisting actively, Playlists with low grow or no engagement leave a Guru in a terrible spot if they promote Ads. Their own product doesn’t work.
If you still want to run ads, then please consider the following:
1- How good is your music and which genre you plan to promote? Commercial music is the best option to promote. However, if your niche is too experimental, we definitely don’t recommend it.
2- What’s your budget? The minimum nowadays, as we already stated, is $100 per day, so prepare a good $3000 for a month and then just keep going. Any less than that won’t take you anywhere. As we mentioned before, it is not the smartest way. With $500, playlisting you can go further. You could try $400 on Playlist Push $50 on SubmitHub and the rest between Groover and us. Then let the algorithm play.
